Discover more about Big Foot Goa

Big Foot Goa, situated in the village of Loutolim, South Goa, is a captivating open-air museum and theme park dedicated to preserving and showcasing Goan rural life. Founded by artist Maendra Alvares, this unique attraction, also known as Ancestral Goa, transports visitors back in time to experience the traditions, culture, and heritage of Goa as it was a century ago. The museum features a meticulously recreated Goan village, complete with miniature houses, traditional occupations, and social settings. Visitors can explore various aspects of Goan life, from fishermen and artisans to liquor shops and village markets. One of the highlights is the depiction of the traditional feni distillery, a testament to Goa's unique culinary heritage. The legend of the Big Foot revolves around Mahadar, a kind and generous landowner who selflessly helped the poor. According to the tale, God, impressed by Mahadar's devotion, granted him a boon: a small place to pray. Mahadar chose to stand on a scorching rock on one leg, praying for mankind for many years. His devotion moved the gods, who blessed him and took him to heaven, leaving his footprint behind on the rock. It is believed that anyone who prays at this spot with a pure heart will be blessed. Another prominent feature is the awe-inspiring 14-meter sculpture of Saint Mira Bai, carved from laterite rock by Maendra Jocelino Araujo Alvares in just 30 days. This remarkable sculpture holds a place in the Limca Book of Records as the longest laterite sculpture in India. The museum also houses the Bigfoot Cross Museum, displaying photographs of numerous crosses from around the world, classified into various categories. Big Foot Goa embraces an "open to the environment" concept, making it an ideal destination to visit during the winter months, from October to February. During this time, the weather is pleasant, allowing visitors to explore the museum's outdoor exhibits comfortably.
