Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, located in Panaji, Goa, is a historically significant and visually stunning Catholic church. Built in Portuguese Baroque style, the church stands atop a hill, offering panoramic views of the city and the Mandovi River. Originally constructed as a chapel in 1541 to serve Portuguese sailors, it was expanded into a larger church in the 1600s. The church's architecture is a blend of Portuguese Baroque and Goan styles, characterized by its pristine white facade, two towers, and a tall belfry. A prominent feature is the zigzagging staircase, added in the 19th century. The church's interior is relatively simple, with the main altar dedicated to Mary Immaculate and two sub-altars dedicated to Jesus crucified and Our Lady of the Rosary. The church also houses a large bell from the ruins of the Augustinian Church of Our Lady of Grace in Old Goa. The feast of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception is celebrated on December 8th each year, with a nine-day novena preceding the event.
