Discover more about Light House Aguada

The Light House Aguada, located within the historic Fort Aguada complex, is a testament to Goa's rich maritime history. Constructed in 1864 by the Portuguese, the lighthouse served as a crucial navigational aid for ships entering the Mandovi River from the Arabian Sea. Originally equipped with an oil lamp that emitted light every seven minutes, it was later upgraded to emit light every 30 seconds. The lighthouse played a vital role in protecting ships from the rocky coastlines. In 1976, it was replaced by a new lighthouse with more modern equipment. Visitors can climb the steps of the new lighthouse for a nominal fee and enjoy views of the Arabian Sea, Aguada Fort, and the surrounding coastline. The fort itself offers a glimpse into Portuguese military architecture, with remnants of its past as a defensive stronghold. The lower part of the fort, once a berthing station for ships, now houses a jail. While at the lighthouse, take a moment to appreciate the panoramic views and imagine the countless ships that have relied on its guiding light. The site is a popular spot for photography and sightseeing, offering a unique blend of history and natural beauty.
