The Maruti Temple, also known as Shri Marutirai Sansthan, stands proudly on Altinho Hill, offering stunning views of Panjim and the Mandovi River. Dedicated to Lord Hanuman, the temple is a symbol of strength, devotion, and perseverance. The temple's history is intertwined with Goa's colonial past. It is believed that the temple was initially built during the Kadamba dynasty (10th–14th century). During the Portuguese colonial era, when Hindu practices were restricted, devotees ingeniously concealed the Hanuman idol to protect it from destruction. This act of resilience has made the temple a symbol of enduring faith. The current structure, renovated after Goa's liberation in 1961, showcases traditional Goan temple architecture. The bright orange facade is particularly striking, and the temple is beautifully illuminated at night, making it visible from afar. A unique feature is the natural freshwater spring with three tanks at the foothill, which continues to serve the local community. Inside, the temple exudes a peaceful ambiance, inviting visitors to reflect and pray. The main idol of Lord Hanuman can even be glimpsed from the main road through an opening in the basement wall. The temple is a hub of activity during festivals like Hanuman Jayanti and the annual Mala Jatra in February, marked by colorful decorations and devotional fervor.
