    If you are traveling by car, start from your location in the Konkan Coast region and head towards the nearest major city, which is Mumbai or Pune. From Mumbai, take the NH48 highway towards Pune. After reaching Karjat, turn left onto the Matheran Road (State Highway 76). Continue on this road for about 23 km until you reach the entry point of Matheran. Note that Matheran is a vehicle-free zone, so you will need to park your car at the designated parking area at Dasturi Naka and continue your journey on foot or by hiring a horse or a hand-pulled rickshaw to reach the main town of Matheran.

  • Train

    Another convenient way to reach Matheran is by train. If you are in Mumbai, board a local train from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CST) to Neral station. The train journey takes approximately 1.5 hours. Upon arrival at Neral, you can take a toy train that operates between Neral and Matheran. The toy train ride offers scenic views and takes about 2 hours. Tickets for the toy train can be purchased at Neral station, and the cost is generally around INR 50-100 per person, depending on the class of travel.

  • Bus

    If you prefer public transportation, you can take a state-run bus from Mumbai or Pune to the town of Karjat. From Karjat, you can hire a taxi or an auto-rickshaw to reach Dasturi Naka, the entry point to Matheran. The bus fare from Mumbai to Karjat is approximately INR 100-150 per person. Once you reach Dasturi Naka, you will need to proceed on foot or use the available horse or rickshaw services to enter Matheran, as no vehicles are allowed beyond this point.
