By Car
If you're driving from Leh, take the NH 1D road towards Nubra Valley. This road is approximately 120 km long and will take about 4-5 hours, depending on road conditions. Pass through the picturesque Khardung La Pass, which is one of the highest motorable roads in the world, at an elevation of 5,359 meters. After descending from Khardung La, continue on the NH 1D until you reach Diskit. Follow the signs for Diskit Gompa, and you'll find it located just outside the village of Diskit, situated on a hilltop.
By Public Bus
From Leh, you can catch a public bus to Diskit. Look for buses departing from the Leh Bus Stand; they usually run daily. The journey will take approximately 6-7 hours. You will travel through scenic routes and might need to transfer at Nubra Valley for a local taxi to Diskit Gompa. Ensure you check the bus schedule in advance, as timings can vary based on the season. The ticket price is generally around INR 300-500.
By Shared Taxi
Another option is to take a shared taxi from Leh to Diskit. You can find shared taxis at the Leh taxi stand. This option is faster than the bus, taking about 4-5 hours. The cost per person is typically INR 800-1000. The taxi will take the same route via Khardung La, and you can enjoy the stunning views along the way. Make sure to confirm the final destination with the driver.
Local Transport from Diskit Village
Once you reach Diskit village, Diskit Gompa is located approximately 2 km away. You can either walk to the monastery to enjoy the landscape or hire a local taxi if you prefer not to walk. Taxis are available in Diskit village, and the fare for a short trip to the Gompa is usually around INR 100-200.
