Car
If you are traveling by car, begin your journey from Leh, the capital city of Ladakh. Follow the NH 1D road southeast towards Shey. Continue on this road for approximately 30 kilometers until you reach the village of Hemis. From Hemis, follow the signs to Hemis National Park. The park entrance is located about 5 kilometers from the village. Keep in mind that the roads can be rough and winding, so drive cautiously. The total journey from Leh to Hemis National Park should take about 1 to 1.5 hours.
Public Transportation
To reach Hemis National Park via public transportation, start from Leh and take a shared taxi or local bus towards Shey. Buses usually depart from the main bus stand in Leh. Once you reach Shey, you can take a shared taxi to Hemis village, which is about 15 kilometers away. From Hemis village, you can either walk or hire a local taxi to take you the final 5 kilometers to the park entrance. The entire journey can take around 2 to 3 hours depending on wait times and road conditions.
Local Taxi
If you prefer more convenience, you can hire a local taxi from Leh that will take you directly to Hemis National Park. The cost for a one-way trip typically ranges from INR 1,500 to INR 2,500 depending on the vehicle and negotiation. The taxi driver will be familiar with the area and can provide additional insights or stops along the way if desired. The trip will take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.
Walking
For the adventurous, if you are already in the vicinity of Hemis village, you can hike to the park entrance. The trail is about 5 kilometers long and takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your pace.
