Car
If you are starting from Leh, the capital of Ladakh, take the NH 1D highway towards Diskit, the main town in Nubra Valley. The distance is approximately 120 km and will take around 4-5 hours. You will drive through Khardung La Pass, one of the highest motorable roads in the world. Be sure to acclimatize properly before this journey as the altitude can be challenging. There is a toll fee of around INR 50 at the Khardung La checkpoint.
Public Transport (Bus)
You can catch a bus from the Leh bus stand to Diskit. There are regular services that operate daily. The journey takes about 6-7 hours and costs approximately INR 300-400. Buses typically leave in the morning, so plan accordingly. You will also pass through Khardung La Pass, so ensure you are prepared for changing weather conditions.
Shared Taxi
Shared taxis are another popular option from Leh to Diskit. You can find these at the Leh taxi stand. The cost is around INR 600-800 per person, and they usually leave when full. The journey will also take about 4-5 hours, similar to a private car. Shared taxis may take a more scenic route, so expect some minor detours.
Motorbike Rental
For the adventurous, renting a motorbike in Leh is a great way to reach Nubra Valley. Rentals typically cost around INR 1,000-1,500 per day. Follow the NH 1D highway to Diskit, ensuring you have proper gear and are comfortable riding at high altitudes.
