Car
If you are driving from Leh, head south on the Leh-Nubra road (NH 1) for approximately 2.5 km. Look for the signs pointing towards Sankar Gompa. Turn left onto the road leading to Sankar village. Continue straight for about 1 km until you reach the entrance of Sankar Gompa. Parking is available near the gompa.
Public Transportation
From Leh, you can take a shared taxi or local bus heading towards Nubra Valley or Sankar village. Make sure to inform the driver you are going to Sankar Gompa. The fare is usually around INR 50-100 per person. The journey takes about 15-20 minutes. Once you arrive at Sankar village, it’s a short walk (about 10 minutes) uphill to the gompa.
Walking
If you are already in the vicinity of Leh, you can walk to Sankar Gompa. From the main market in Leh, head south towards Chanspa. Follow the road signs for Sankar village. It is about a 3 km walk, which should take approximately 45 minutes to an hour. Enjoy the scenic views along the way.
