From the center of Leh, head northwest on Fort Road (also known as Leh Main Market Road) towards the direction of Leh Palace. Continue walking for about 1 kilometer until you reach the main junction near the bus stand. At the junction, take a left onto the road that leads to Spituk. This road is often marked with signs pointing to the monastery. Follow this road for approximately 5 kilometers. As you approach the monastery, you will see it perched on a hill to your right. Keep an eye out for the entrance that leads up to the monastery.

  • Cycling

If you prefer cycling, rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Leh. Starting from the main market area, head towards Fort Road and follow the same route as described for walking. Cycling will allow you to cover the distance of about 5 kilometers quicker, but be cautious of the traffic and the road conditions. The route is mostly uphill as you near the monastery. Ensure your bike is in good condition for the journey.

  • Public Transport (Shared Taxi)

Although you mentioned not traveling by car, shared taxis are a common form of public transport in Leh and are quite affordable. From the main market area, look for shared taxis heading towards Spituk. They typically wait near the bus stand. The fare is usually very low, and you can share the ride with other tourists.
