Getting There

Walking
From the center of Leh, start at Leh Market. Head southeast on Fort Road towards the Leh Palace. Continue straight for about 1.5 km until you reach the junction with the road to Shey. Turn left onto the road towards Shey/Thiksey. Keep following this road for approximately 12 km. You will pass by Shey Palace on your left. After about 2 km further, you will see the Thiksey Monastery on your right. The monastery is located on a hilltop, making it visible from a distance.

Shared Taxi
From Leh Market, walk to the nearest shared taxi stand, which is located near the main market area. Look for a shared taxi heading towards Thiksey or Shey. The fare is generally around 50-100 INR per person. Once you are in the taxi, inform the driver that you wish to go to Thiksey Monastery. The journey will take approximately 30 minutes. The taxi will drop you off at the entrance of the monastery.

Bicycle Rental
If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bicycle from one of the rental shops in Leh. Start from the Leh Market and cycle southeast towards the Leh Palace. Continue straight for about 1.5 km until you reach the junction with the road to Shey. Turn left onto the Shey/Thiksey road. The total distance is around 12 km, and cycling will give you a chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. Once you reach Thiksey Monastery, you can park your bicycle and explore the site.
