Car
If you are traveling by car, start from Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya. Head south on NH6 towards the town of Mawngap. After approximately 22 km, you will reach Mawngap. From there, take a left onto the road leading to Laitlum Canyon, which is marked with signboards. Continue for about 10 km until you see the entrance to Laitlum Canyon on your right. There is no entry fee to access the canyon.
Public Transportation (Bus/Shared Taxi)
From Shillong, you can catch a shared taxi or a local bus heading towards Mawngap. Shared taxis depart from the main taxi stand in Shillong, and the journey will take around 45 minutes. Once you reach Mawngap, you will need to hire a local taxi or a motorcycle taxi to take you to Laitlum Canyon, which is approximately 10 km away. Expect to pay around ₹200-₹300 for the taxi fare. Ensure you agree on the fare before starting the journey.
Trekking (if looking for an adventure)
For the adventurous, you can trek from Shillong to Laitlum Canyon. The trek is about 14 km and will take around 4-5 hours. Start from Shillong and follow the path towards Mawngap, then take the same road leading to Laitlum Canyon. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks, as there are no shops along the route. This trek offers scenic views and is a great way to experience the local landscape.
