Begin your journey by walking to the nearest bus stop in Gary. Look for the Gary Public Transit bus route that goes towards Chicago. You can take the Route 10 bus to the 'South Shore Railcat' station. Once you arrive at the station, purchase a ticket for the South Shore Line train headed towards Chicago. After about a 50-minute ride, disembark at the 'South Bend' stop in Chicago. From there, transfer to the 'Red Line' subway at the State/Lake station. Take the Red Line towards 95th/Dan Ryan and get off at the 'Garfield' station. Finally, from the Garfield station, you can catch the #55 bus route heading east towards Cornell Ave. Get off at the stop closest to 6300 S Cornell Ave, which is the entrance to the Garden of the Phoenix.

Walking
If you prefer to walk, start at the Gary Metro Center located at 504 Broadway St, Gary, IN. Walk east on Broadway until you reach 5th Ave, then turn left and continue until you reach the South Shore Railcat station. Follow the same public transit instructions as above from this point. Note that walking to Chicago from Gary can be quite a long journey, so this option is not recommended unless you are prepared for a lengthy hike.
