Take the exit onto I-94 E toward Detroit. After approximately 10 miles, take exit 30 for I-196 S toward Benton Harbor. Continue on I-196 S for about 12 miles, then take exit 1 for M-63 S toward St. Joseph. Follow M-63 S for about 5 miles until you reach Thornton Dr. Turn left onto Thornton Dr, and the entrance to Grand Mere State Park will be on your left. The total drive should take around 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic. Parking at the park is typically free.
Public Transportation
To reach Grand Mere State Park using public transportation, begin at the nearest bus station in The Dunes. Take the 'Dune Shuttle' service to the nearest train station, which connects to the South Shore Line. Board the train heading towards Michigan City and alight at the 'Benton Harbor' station. From there, you will need to take a local taxi or rideshare service (like Uber or Lyft) to reach Grand Mere State Park, which is about 12 miles away. Be prepared for taxi fares that may range from $25 to $35 depending on the time of day and traffic conditions.
Bicycle
