Car Rental
If you're starting from the city of Ternate, rent a car and drive to the harbor. The drive to the harbor takes about 30 minutes. Follow the signs to the Ternate Ferry Terminal, located at the southern part of the island. Ensure you have cash for parking and any potential tolls.
Public Transportation
For those not renting a car, take a local 'angkot' (minibus) from Ternate city center to the Ternate Ferry Terminal. The fare is usually around IDR 5,000 - IDR 10,000. Confirm with the driver that they are going to the ferry terminal before boarding.
Ferry
From Ternate Ferry Terminal, purchase a ticket for a ferry to Maitara Island. The ferry ride takes approximately 30 minutes. Ticket prices range from IDR 20,000 to IDR 50,000 depending on the ferry service you choose. Ferries operate several times a day, so check the schedule upon arrival at the terminal.
Walking
Once you arrive at Maitara Island, you can explore the area on foot. The island is relatively small, and you can walk to nearby beaches and other attractions. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water, especially if you plan to hike.
