Car
If you're driving from Medan (the capital of North Sumatra), head south on the Medan-Tebing Tinggi road (Route 25) for approximately 130 km. Once you reach Tebing Tinggi, turn onto Route 1 towards Parapat. After about 50 km, you will arrive at Parapat, a lakeside town by Lake Toba. Continue driving along the lake on Jl. Lintas Sumatra for another 25 km until you reach Samosir Island. You will need to take a ferry from Parapat to Samosir Island; ferry costs are around IDR 15,000 per person. Once on Samosir, follow the signs or ask locals for directions to Ronggur Nihuta village. The waterfall is approximately 15 km from the ferry terminal, and a local guide can help you navigate the last stretch to the waterfall.

From Medan, take a bus to Parapat. Buses leave regularly from the Amplas Bus Terminal and cost around IDR 60,000. The journey takes about 4 hours. Once in Parapat, you can take a ferry to Samosir Island, costing IDR 15,000 per person. After arriving on the island, you can hire a local taxi or motorcycle taxi (ojek) to take you to Ronggur Nihuta village. The distance is about 15 km, and the fare should be negotiated beforehand, usually around IDR 50,000-100,000 depending on your negotiation skills. Once you reach the village, ask locals for directions to Simangande Waterfall.
