Car
If you're starting from Manokwari, drive east on Jalan Raya Manokwari toward the Trans Papua Highway (Jalan Trans Papua). Continue on this road for about 3 hours until you reach the town of Nabire. From Nabire, follow the signs to the coastal road that leads to Cenderawasih Bay. The drive offers stunning views of the coastline and takes about 2 hours. Be sure to stop at local shops for refreshments along the way. Ensure your vehicle is in good condition, as road conditions can vary.
Public Transportation (Bus)
From Manokwari, take a bus from the downtown bus station heading to Nabire. Tickets typically cost around IDR 150,000 and the journey can take anywhere from 4 to 6 hours depending on traffic. Once in Nabire, you can catch a local minibus or ojek (motorcycle taxi) to get to the coastal area near Cenderawasih Bay. The fare for the minibus is approximately IDR 30,000.
Boat
Once you arrive at the coastal area near Cenderawasih Bay, you may need to hire a boat to access some of the best spots in the bay, especially if you want to experience swimming with whale sharks. Local fishermen often offer boat rides for around IDR 500,000 for a half-day trip. It’s advisable to negotiate the price beforehand and ensure that the boat service is reputable.

While visiting Cenderawasih Bay, consider staying in one of the local guesthouses or homestays in Nabire. Prices generally range from IDR 200,000 to IDR 600,000 per night. Booking in advance is recommended, especially during peak tourist seasons.
