If you are traveling by car from the Dutch Heritage Area, start by getting onto I-80 E/I-35 N from your location. Follow signs for I-80 E toward Davenport. After about 3 miles, take exit 141A for I-235 E toward Des Moines. Continue on I-235 E for approximately 7 miles, and take exit 8B toward E 6th St. Continue straight onto E 6th St, then turn right onto E Locust St. The State Historical Society of Iowa will be on your left at 600 E Locust St, Des Moines, IA 50319. Parking may be available on the street or in nearby parking lots, which may incur a fee.

For public transportation, you can take the local bus service. Check the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) for routes that serve the Dutch Heritage Area. You'll want to board a bus heading towards downtown Des Moines. Depending on the route, you may need to transfer once or twice. Get off at the stop nearest to E Locust St. From there, it's a short walk to the State Historical Society of Iowa located at 600 E Locust St. Make sure to check the DART website for the latest schedule and fare information, as there may be a small fee for the bus.
