Lost Island Themepark: A Journey Through Mythical Realms

Lost Island Themepark, located in Waterloo, Iowa, is a 90-acre theme park that transports visitors to a fictional, enchanted island called 'Auk Modu'. Opened in 2022, the park is divided into five distinct realms, each themed around a classical element: Tamariki (Spirit), Udara (Air), Awa (Water), Yuta (Earth), and Mura (Fire). Each realm offers a unique atmosphere and a variety of attractions, including roller coasters, family rides, and interactive play areas. Thrill-seekers can brave the heights of Skyborne in the Udara (Air) realm or experience the adrenaline rush of Matugani, a launched coaster in the Yuta (Earth) realm. Families can explore the whimsical Tamariki (Spirit) realm, designed especially for children. The Mura (Fire) realm houses Volkanu: Quest for the Golden Idol, an interactive 4D dark ride that has garnered awards for its innovative design. In 2025, the park introduced Fire Runner, a single-rail roller coaster by Rocky Mountain Construction, adding another thrilling experience to its lineup. Lost Island Themepark is owned by the Bertch family, who also operate the adjacent Lost Island Waterpark. The waterpark opened in 2001 and has consistently ranked among the top water parks in the country. The Bertch family envisioned the theme park as a way to give back to the community, creating a vacation-like destination close to home. Despite initial challenges with attendance, Lost Island Themepark continues to evolve, offering a unique and immersive experience for visitors of all ages.
