The Russell Lamson Apartments stand as a testament to Waterloo's rich history and architectural heritage. Constructed in 1914 by real estate developer Clyde O. Lamson and his wife, Lillian Russell Lamson, the building was originally known as the Hotel Russell-Lamson. Designed by the Chicago architectural firm of Marshall & Fox, the eight-story structure showcases a Georgian Revival style, complete with a base of rusticated Bedford limestone and a red brick veneer shaft.For decades, the Hotel Russell-Lamson was a prominent fixture in Waterloo, hosting the Greater Waterloo Association from 1919 to 1921 and serving as the original home of radio station KWWL in 1947 and television station KWWL in 1953. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.Today, the Russell Lamson Apartments offer modern, affordable living in the heart of downtown Waterloo. The renovated apartments feature new kitchens, flooring, and appliances, while the building itself retains its historic charm. Residents can enjoy amenities such as an exercise facility, media learning center, and on-site management. The ground floor features retail and restaurant spaces, adding to the building's appeal and contributing to the vibrancy of the surrounding neighborhood.
