Al-Adhamiya, one of Baghdad's oldest areas, dates back to the Abbasid period and offers a rich tapestry of history and culture. Situated in northeast Baghdad along the Tigris River, it's home to the Abu Hanifa Mosque, a prominent landmark built around the tomb of Abū Ḥanīfah an-Nuʿmān, the founder of the Sunni Hanafi school of Islamic jurisprudence.
Before 2003, Al-Adhamiya was a mixed Sunni and Shi'ite community, but after the Iraqi civil war (2006–2008), it became a predominantly Sunni district. The neighborhood is known for its strong intellectual background, with many politicians, artists, scholars, and sports figures residing there.

Getting There
Public Transport
From the center of Baghdad, head to Al-Nasr Square (Sahat Al-Nasr). Look for bus number 14 or 15, which frequently travels towards Al-Adhamiya. The bus fare is minimal. Once you reach the Al-Adhamiya area, disembark at the nearest stop to the Al-Askari Shrine, which is a prominent landmark. From there, you can ask locals for directions to المسنايا, which is only a short walk away.
Taxi
Taxis are readily available in Baghdad. Negotiate the fare before starting your journey. A taxi ride from Baghdad city center to Al-Adhamiya typically costs around IQD 23,325. Ride-sharing apps like Careem are also available. Confirm the location with the driver before starting the trip.
Walking
If you are already in the Al-Adhamiya area, you can walk to المسنايا. Start at the Al-Askari Shrine and head southeast on Al-Mashtal Street. Continue straight for about 1 kilometer until you reach the intersection with Al-Mansour Street. Turn left and walk for another 500 meters. You will see signs for المسنايا. The walk should take around 15-20 minutes and will provide you with a feel of the local neighborhood.
