Sami Abdulrahman Park, located in Erbil, is a sprawling green space offering a respite from the city's hustle and bustle. Covering approximately 800 acres, it is considered one of the largest parks in Iraq. Originally a military base in the early 1990s, the site was transformed into a public park by the Kurdistan Regional Government in the mid-1990s. The park was constructed in two phases and opened to the public on March 14, 2000. In 2004, it was renamed in honor of Sami Abdulrahman, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, who was killed in a bombing earlier that year and who had supported the park's development. The park features numerous gardens, walking paths, and two artificial lakes. Visitors can also find cafes, markets, and restaurants within the park. It also includes monuments to those who were killed on February 1st. Sami Abdulrahman Park is a popular destination for families, tourists, and anyone seeking a relaxing outdoor experience in Erbil.
