Discover more about مقام صاحب الزمان

مقام صاحب الزمان (may God hasten his reappearance) is a revered Shia site in Karbala, situated near the Imam Hussein Shrine on the bank of the Alqami River. This shrine is attributed to Imam al-Mahdi, the awaited savior in Shia Islam, drawing devotees who come to offer prayers and supplications. Historical accounts regarding the establishment of this مقام are limited. However, it is said that a scholar, while in this location, had a vision of Imam al-Mahdi. Originally, the site was a small mud structure. Over time, it underwent expansions and renovations, notably in 1378 AH by الحاج حمزة خليل and in 1391 AH by محسن حميد ملا مهدي وزني after parts of it were damaged. During the الانتفاضة الشعبانية, the Ba'athist government demolished the building, but عباس آل بحر اليساري reconstructed it in 1994. Today, the مقام covers an area of 1300 square meters, featuring a dome adorned with القاشاني tiles, three entrances, and an embellished محراب. The walls are clad in marble. It is a place where people come to pray, make vows, and seek blessings. On Friday mornings, دعاء الندبة is recited, and women distribute alms in the evenings. The area around the مقام also offers recreational spots with cafes along the riverbank.
