Walking
The Erbil Citadel is located in the heart of Erbil, making it easily accessible on foot from most central locations. From Erbil's main square, head north towards the high mound. The Citadel is visible from a distance and is a short walk. There is no entrance fee to enter the Citadel, but some museums inside may have a small fee.
Taxi
Taxis are readily available throughout Erbil. Negotiate the fare before you get in, or ensure the driver uses the meter. A short taxi ride from the city center to the Citadel should cost approximately 500-1,000 IQD. Tell the driver you want to go to 'Qelat Erbil'.
Public Transport
While public transportation in Erbil is not very developed, mini-buses and shared taxis do operate in the city. Ask a local for directions to the nearest stop for a ride to the Citadel. The fare should be minimal, but be prepared for a less direct route.
Driving
If driving, follow signs towards Erbil Citadel. Free parking is available near the back entrance. The parking fee is approximately 1,000 IQD.
