Walking
From the center of Kirkuk, the Citadel is a prominent landmark easily reachable on foot. Orient yourself towards the large mound rising above the Khasa River. As you approach, you'll notice signs directing you to 'Qala'at Kirkuk' or 'Kirkuk Citadel'. The walk is approximately 15-20 minutes from most central locations. Be prepared for a climb as you ascend the mound to the Citadel entrance.
Taxi
Taxis are readily available throughout Kirkuk. Simply tell the driver you wish to go to 'Qala'at Kirkuk' (the Citadel). Most drivers will know the location. A short taxi ride from the city center should cost approximately 2,000-5,000 IQD. Negotiate the fare beforehand to avoid any confusion. Note that traffic can be heavy in the central area.
