    From Ballyconneely, head towards Aillebrack. The Connemara Smokehouse is located at Bunowen Pier, clearly signposted. Parking is available near the pier. Note that parking might be limited during peak season. There are no parking costs.

  • Public Transport

    From Galway, take the Citylink bus to Clifden. From Clifden, take bus 432 towards Ballyconneely. Alight at Ballyconneely and walk or take a short taxi ride to Bunowen Pier. A single bus fare from Galway to Clifden is approximately €11-€16. The local bus from Clifden to Ballyconneely is included in that fare. A taxi from Ballyconneely to the Smokehouse would be approximately €10-€15.

Since 1979, the Roberts family has been dedicated to crafting the finest traditionally smoked wild Atlantic seafood, using methods passed down through generations. As the oldest smokehouse in Connemara and one of the oldest in western Ireland, the Connemara Smokehouse offers a glimpse into the art of smoking fish. The family uses fresh, locally caught fish and time-honored beechwood smoking techniques to create a range of award-winning products. Visitors can purchase organic smoked salmon, wild cold smoked tuna, wild sea trout, and organic gravadlax. Visitors are welcome to explore the factory shop and learn about the smoking process. Informational panels and a short video provide insights into the craft. During the summer months, tours are available, including filleting and slicing demonstrations. The on-site café and gift shop offer a place to relax and enjoy the stunning sea views. Connemara Smokehouse is Ireland's first Food Économusée, showcasing local crafts and traditions.
