Discover more about Wild Atlantic Way Discovery Point @Rossnowlagh Beach

Rossnowlagh Beach, or 'Ros Neamlach' (heavenly headland) in Irish, is a captivating destination on Donegal's south coast, along the Wild Atlantic Way. This 3.2km (2 mile) stretch of golden sand extends from Coolmore cliffs to the Carrickfad rock outcrop, offering breathtaking views of Donegal Bay and the Slieve League cliffs. Rossnowlagh is a Blue Flag beach, recognized for its cleanliness, safety, and environmental standards. It's a popular spot for swimming, walking, and especially surfing, with consistent waves that attract beginners and experienced surfers alike. Several surf schools operate in the area, providing lessons and equipment rental. The beach's funnel shape and westward-facing aspect create ideal conditions for waves, which can reach up to 7 meters in winter. Adding to its unique appeal, Rossnowlagh is one of the few beaches in Ireland where cars can drive directly onto the sand. While this accessibility is convenient, visitors should exercise caution, observe speed limits, and be mindful of tide times to avoid getting stuck. Beyond the beach itself, Rossnowlagh offers a welcoming community and local amenities. Visitors can enjoy traditional Irish music in nearby pubs and explore the Donegal History Society Museum at the Franciscan Friary.
