Driving
If you are driving, start by heading towards Letterkenny. From Letterkenny, take the N56 road towards Donegal Town. After about 20 km, turn onto the R251 road at the junction signposted for Glenveagh National Park. Continue on the R251 for about 12 km until you reach the junction for the Glenveagh National Park entrance. Follow the signs to the visitor center, where you can park your car. Note that parking fees may apply, so be sure to check current rates at the visitor center.
Public Transport
To reach Glenveagh Castle via public transport, take a bus from Letterkenny to Gartan. Buses from Letterkenny to Gartan are available, but check the latest schedules to ensure availability. Once you arrive in Gartan, you will need to walk approximately 3 km to the entrance of Glenveagh National Park. Keep in mind that this walk is through rural areas, so wear appropriate footwear and consider the weather conditions. Alternatively, you may find taxi services from Gartan to the park entrance if walking is not preferred.
Walking from Visitor Center
Once you arrive at the Glenveagh National Park visitor center (if driving), you can either walk or take a shuttle bus to Glenveagh Castle. The walk to the castle is approximately 2 km and takes around 30 minutes along scenic paths. If you prefer, check with the visitor center for shuttle bus availability, which may incur a small fee. The shuttle bus is a convenient option for those who want to save time and energy.
