Travel Guide to Kilkenny Castle

Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from any location in County Kilkenny, head towards Kilkenny city center. Use the R695 road, which connects to the N76 road. Follow signs for Kilkenny and continue straight until you reach the city center. Once you get to the roundabout at the junction of the N10 and the R693, take the second exit onto the R693 towards The Parade. Kilkenny Castle is located at The Parade, Dukesmeadows, Kilkenny, R95 YRK1. There is parking available near the castle, but note that there may be a small fee for parking.

• Public Transportation - Bus

  For those traveling by bus, check the local bus routes that connect to Kilkenny city. Services such as Bus Éireann operate regular routes from various towns in County Kilkenny to Kilkenny city. Once you arrive at the Kilkenny City Bus Station, you can walk to Kilkenny Castle. Head out of the bus station and go straight onto the High Street. Continue walking until you reach The Parade; the castle will be visible on your right. The walk should take approximately 15 minutes.

• Public Transportation - Train

  If you are traveling by train, take the train to Kilkenny from Dublin or other major cities. The train station in Kilkenny is located about a 20-minute walk from Kilkenny Castle. Upon exiting the train station, head east on the Castlecomer Road (R693). Turn right onto the High Street and continue walking until you reach The Parade. Kilkenny Castle will be located on your right. Alternatively, you can take a taxi from the train station, which will take about 5 minutes and cost approximately €10.

• Walking

  If you are already in Kilkenny city, walking to Kilkenny Castle is quite straightforward. From the city center, navigate towards the High Street. Continue walking along this street until you reach The Parade. The castle is prominently situated on your right side. This pleasant walk allows you to enjoy the local shops and cafes along the way.
