Getting There

  • Car

    If you're driving, start from Killarney and take the N71 road towards Kenmare. Continue on the N71 for about 30 km until you reach the town of Kenmare. From Kenmare, take the R569 road, which will lead you towards the Glengarriff area. After approximately 12 km, you will see signs for the R572 towards Glengarriff. Stay on this road until you reach the junction with the R575, then turn left onto the R575. Continue on the R575 for about 8 km, and you will arrive at Glacier Lake, located in Derrynamucklagh, Co. Kerry. There is parking available near the lake.

  • Public Transportation

    To reach Glacier Lake via public transport, take a bus from Killarney to Kenmare (Bus Eireann operates this route). The journey takes approximately 30 minutes. Once in Kenmare, you will need to transfer to a local bus service that operates towards Glengarriff. Check the local schedules as they can vary. Ask the driver to drop you off at the nearest stop to Glacier Lake; from there, it will be about a 2 km walk to the lake. Ensure you have a map or GPS to navigate the walking route.

    If you're already in Glengarriff or near the R572 road, you can walk to Glacier Lake. Follow the R572 towards Derrynamucklagh. The walk is approximately 4-5 km from Glengarriff and will take about 1 hour. Make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water, as the terrain can be uneven in places.
