Car
If you are traveling by car, start from Aosta city center. Take the SS26 road towards Courmayeur for about 20 km. At the town of La Salle, turn right onto the SP24 road towards Planaval. Continue on the SP24 for approximately 8 km until you reach the hamlet of Planaval. There is limited parking available near the trailhead, so arrive early. The area is free to access, but be mindful of any parking fees that may apply if you park in designated areas.
Public Transportation
To reach Col de Malatrà via public transportation, take a bus from Aosta to La Salle. The bus service is operated by the local transportation company, and you can check the latest schedule online or at the Aosta bus station. Once you arrive in La Salle, transfer to a local bus heading towards Planaval. The journey may take around 1.5 to 2 hours in total. Note that you should purchase a bus ticket in advance, which costs approximately €2 to €5 depending on the distance.
Hiking
Upon arriving in Planaval, you will need to hike to reach Col de Malatrà. The trailhead is well marked, and the hike takes about 2-3 hours depending on your pace. The trail offers beautiful views and is recommended for those with a moderate fitness level. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking gear and carry water and snacks. There are no fees for using the hiking trails.
