If you are at the Basilica of San Francesco d'Assisi, exit the basilica and head south on Via Frate Elia. Continue straight for about 500 meters until you reach the intersection with Via San Francesco. Turn left onto Via San Francesco, which will lead you down to the main street of Assisi. As you walk, enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding hills. After about 300 meters, you will reach a fork in the road; take the right path onto Via Portica. Continue walking until you reach the end of this street, and you will find yourself at Piazza Matteotti.

From the Rocca Maggiore (the fortress), exit the fortress and walk down the path leading towards the city center. Follow the signs that direct you to the main square, Piazza del Comune. Once you reach Piazza del Comune, you will see the Temple of Minerva on your left. From here, take Via San Rufino, which is located to the left of the temple. Continue on this street for about 200 meters, and you will arrive at Piazza Matteotti.
