Discover more about BAM - Biblioteca degli Alberi Milano

BAM - Biblioteca degli Alberi Milano, or the Library of Trees, is a unique and innovative urban park located in the heart of Milan's modern Porta Nuova district. Inaugurated in October 2018, BAM is not just a green space but a contemporary botanical library, boasting a rich collection of plant life. The park features over 100 botanical species, more than 500 trees forming 22 circular forests, and 135,000 aromatic plants, hedges, and shrubs. Designed by the Dutch studio Inside Outside Petra Blaisse, BAM covers 10 hectares and offers a network of paths that connect the surrounding neighborhoods. These paths create a checkerboard of green rooms, irregular fields, and circular forests, providing spaces for relaxation, recreation, and community events. The park also includes a small pond that supports aquatic plants and attracts pollinating insects and birds. BAM is more than just a park; it's a cultural hub. The Riccardo Catella Foundation manages the park and organizes over 200 free cultural events each year, including concerts, art installations, and community activities. These events, known as BAMoments, celebrate nature and culture and are inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In 2025, BAM will expand with the inauguration of the BAM Butterfly and Insect Oasis, featuring a rose garden with over 100 varieties of roses and a collection of nectariferous plants. This new area aims to be a model for accessibility for people with physical and cognitive disabilities. BAM exemplifies an innovative public-private partnership, built by COIMA and managed by the Riccardo Catella Foundation. It serves as a model for future urban park developments in Italy, blending nature, culture, and community engagement.
