Overview
Nestled in the charming village of Sant'Andrea in Percussina, just outside Florence, the Museo CASA MACHIAVELLI offers a glimpse into the life of one of the Renaissance's most influential figures, Niccolò Machiavelli. This is where Machiavelli sought refuge after being exiled from Florence in 1512 and where he wrote his most famous work, 'The Prince'.The house itself, along with the tavern known as L'Albergaccio, is described in Machiavelli's letters, offering a vivid picture of his life in exile. By day, he managed his farm, and by night, he engaged in lively discussions and card games at the tavern with the local butcher and innkeeper. He then retreated to his study to read the classics and pen his political masterpiece.A visit to the Museo CASA MACHIAVELLI includes a tour of the house, the Italian garden with panoramic views of Florence, and the historic cellars. You can also explore the secret underground tunnel that connects the cellar to the Albergaccio, the oldest restaurant in Italy. The museum provides a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of Machiavelli and gain insight into the life and times that shaped his thinking.
