Discover more about MuGot - Museo Gotica Toscana

MuGot - Museo Gotica Toscana, situated in the Ponzalla area of Scarperia e San Piero, stands as a dedicated memorial to the fierce battles between the German army and Allied forces in the Apennine region north of Florence during September 1944. The museum was founded in 2011 to preserve the memory of the fighting that occurred around the Giogo Pass, where Allied forces sought to breach the Gothic Line, Germany's last major defense line in Italy. The museum features approximately 400 square meters of exhibition space, with artifacts displayed across four rooms and 27 showcases. Exhibits include objects, soldier mannequins, and reconstructions of Gothic Line defensive positions. These items are sourced from collections of the Gotica Toscana APS members, battlefield discoveries, and donations from veterans and their families. The museum's displays offer visitors, scholars, and students a firsthand look at restored field installations and WWII exhibits, bearing witness to the intense battles. MuGot's mission extends beyond displaying artifacts; it aims to promote reflection and awareness of the war's impact. The museum organizes excursions to the battlefield to provide a deeper understanding of the historical events. Additionally, MuGot serves as a meeting point for collectors of historical-military vehicles, hosting the History & Military Vehicles Italia club and the Italian office of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association. Visitors can also explore monuments commemorating Allied soldiers along Route 503 leading to the Giogo Pass. Nearby, on Mount Altuzzo and Monticelli hill, trenches and pillboxes have been excavated to recreate their wartime appearance.
