Pratolino Park: A Medici Wonderland

Nestled in the Florentine hills, Pratolino Park, also called Villa Demidoff, offers a captivating journey through art, nature, and history. This expansive park was once the estate of Francesco I de' Medici, who commissioned Bernardo Buontalenti to create a fantastical villa and gardens in the late 16th century. Although the original villa no longer stands, the park retains its enchanting atmosphere, with remnants of its glorious past scattered throughout the grounds.Defined as the "garden of wonders" by contemporaries, the park boasts impressive features such as the Colossus of the Apennines, a colossal statue-fountain by Giambologna. Other attractions include Cupid's Grotto, the Mugnone Fountain, and the Buontalenti Chapel. In 1872, Russian Prince Pavel Demidoff purchased the property and further altered the landscape, giving the villa its current name.
