Located in the quartiere of San Ferdinando in Naples, the Church of Saint Anne 'di Palazzo' is a testament to the city's rich artistic and religious history. Erected after the victory at the Battle of Lepanto, it was dedicated to the Madonna del Rosario. Michele Lauro donated the land to the Dominicans in 1572 for its construction. At that time, the area was less populated and outside the city walls.The church's facade, attributed to Giovanni Battista Nauclerio (1706-1710), invites visitors to explore its sacred interior. Inside, high ceilings and exquisite frescoes create an atmosphere of peace and reflection. The stucco decorations, dating back to the 17th century, were largely restored in the 18th century. The main altar, created by Domenico Antonio Vaccaro in 1729, features a Madonna del Rosario altarpiece by Giuseppe Bonito (c. 1738). The Rococo-style sacristy, completed by Michelangelo Porzio in 1739, adds to the church's artistic allure.Throughout its history, the Church of Saint Anne 'di Palazzo' has been a significant site. Eleonora Fonseca Pimentel, a leader of the Parthenopean Republic, married here in February 1778 and later buried her son within its walls. The church was also where Luca Giordano was baptized. Severely damaged during the bombardments of 1943, the church has been restored to its former beauty. Today, the church continues to be a place of worship and a cherished landmark for those seeking a blend of spirituality and artistic inspiration.
