Discover more about Teatro Romano di Carsulae

The Teatro Romano di Carsulae, located within the archaeological park of Carsulae near San Gemini, offers a fascinating journey back to the Roman era. Situated on a plateau, the theater is part of a larger complex of ruins that comprised the ancient Roman city, Carsulae. Founded around the 3rd century BC along the Via Flaminia, Carsulae prospered as a strategic center for trade and travelers. The theater itself, constructed in the 1st century AD, is a testament to Roman engineering and architectural prowess. Built with opus reticulatum, the theater could accommodate hundreds of spectators. While the stage's wooden elements have disappeared, the cavea remains, offering a tangible connection to the past. Carsulae's decline began in the 4th century AD due to the diminishing importance of the western Via Flaminia. Abandoned after a major earthquake, the city was never resettled, leaving its ruins remarkably intact. Today, visitors can explore the theater, the Arch of San Damiano, the forum, and other public buildings, gaining insight into the daily life of a Roman city.
