Discover more about Vascello Neptune

The Vascello Neptune, permanently docked at Genoa's Porto Antico (Old Port), is more than just a ship; it's a floating film set with a fascinating history. Built in Tunisia in 1985, the ship served as the primary set for Roman Polanski's movie "Pirates". This impressive vessel, though often mistaken for a galleon, is actually a ship (vascello), loosely inspired by late 17th-century Spanish ships but with French vessel characteristics.Constructed with a steel hull and iroko wood for the above-water parts, the Neptune stretches 63 meters in length and boasts intricate detailing. While the cannons and statues are made of fiberglass, the ship exudes an authentic maritime charm. After its role in "Pirates," the Neptune was used in the TV miniseries "Neverland" before finding its permanent home in Genoa.Visitors can explore the ship's decks, cabins, and hold, gaining insight into the design and layout of historical ships. Although it's a replica, the Vascello Neptune offers an immersive experience, transporting visitors back to the age of sail. The surrounding Porto Antico, with its vibrant waterfront, cafes, and shops, enhances the visit, making it a perfect outing for families, history buffs, and film enthusiasts.
