Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from Bari, take the A14 highway towards Taranto. After about 50 km, exit at 'Matera' and follow the signs to Matera city center. Once in Matera, navigate to the 'Sassi di Matera' area, which is well-signposted. There are several parking areas available outside the Sassi, where you can leave your car for a fee of around €1-2 per hour.

• Train

  For those traveling by train, you can take a regional train from Bari to Matera. The journey takes approximately 1.5 hours. Once you arrive at the Matera train station, you can take a local bus (line 1) to the city center, or it's a 20-minute walk to the Sassi area. The bus ticket costs about €1.50.

• Bus

  If you prefer buses, several companies operate services from major cities in Puglia to Matera. From Bari, you can take the 'Marozzi' or 'Miccolis' bus services. The journey usually takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, and tickets can be purchased online or at the bus station. A one-way ticket costs approximately €6-10. The bus will drop you off near the city center, from where you can easily walk to the Sassi.

• Taxi or Rideshare

  For a more convenient option, you can take a taxi or use rideshare services like Uber from nearby locations. The price may vary depending on your starting point; for example, a taxi from Bari to Matera can cost around €70-100. This method is particularly useful if you are traveling with luggage or in a group.
