The trip was mostly well organized despite a delay in the departing train from Rome. Meeting instructions in Rome were clear. The transition from the train station in Naples to the bus to Pompeii was seamless. One quibble is that we paid for a non-guided tour. Could have done a self-guided audio tour but didn't get an explanation from the guide on how to get it from the visitor center. It's a minor point, though. Another point for the budget conscious. You could probably get yourself to Pompeii independently by train/bus from Rome/Naples for less money. The "value-added" from Italia Tours is they arranged all the travel and tickets into the ruins making it simple and easier. However, you pay a higher price per person for that convenience. Again, we chose an unguided tour but there are guided group tour options as well but for more money. Pompeii itself was very interesting. It was busy but not overly crowded. Might be because it was very hot (38C or 100F). Definitely bring you own water/water bottle in; you will need it! You should also bring snacks. One final point. You're on site for about 5 hours. You should make a plan to visit the ruins for about 3-4 hours and then build in sometime to have something to eat afterwards. There are a number of restaurants nearby that have shaded patios (you'll want the shade). In that time, you may not be able to cover everything so make a plan on what's most important for you to see. Overall, it was well worth the trip and reasonable value for money in my opinion.
