    Getting There

    Public Transport

    From Kyoto Station, the JR Sagano Line (also known as JR Sanin Line) provides the fastest access to Arashiyama. The ride to Saga-Arashiyama Station takes about 15 minutes and costs ¥240. From there, it's a 5-10 minute walk to central Arashiyama. Alternatively, take the Hankyu Line from Kyoto-Kawaramachi or Karasuma Station to Katsura Station, then transfer to the Hankyu Arashiyama Line. This takes about 20 minutes and costs ¥240. The Keifuku Arashiyama Line connects Arashiyama with Omiya Station in central Kyoto (20 minutes, 250 yen). A Kyoto Subway & Randen 1-Day Ticket is also available for 1,300 yen.

    Walking

    Arashiyama's main attractions are easily walkable. From Saga-Arashiyama Station, walk north for 5-10 minutes to reach the Togetsukyo Bridge and the entrance to the bamboo grove. Tenryu-ji Temple is a short walk from the Keifuku Line's Arashiyama Station and the main bus stop. To reach Iwatayama Monkey Park, cross the Togetsukyo Bridge and follow the signs for a 15-20 minute uphill hike. Note that the path to the Monkey Park is steep.

    Taxi

    A taxi from downtown Kyoto to Arashiyama takes approximately 25 minutes and costs around ¥3400-4200. Taxis can drop you off near the Togetsukyo Bridge or Tenryu-ji Temple, providing convenient access to the main attractions. Consider using a taxi if you have limited mobility or are traveling with heavy luggage.
