If you are driving, start from central Bungo and head towards Route 57. Follow Route 57 for approximately 20 kilometers. You will pass through scenic rural areas. Once you reach Taketa, look for signs directing you to Oka Castle Ruins. The ruins are located at 2889 Taketa, Oita 878-0013. There is a parking area available nearby for visitors.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, begin your journey at Bungo-Taketa Station. Take the JR Kyudai Line train towards Nobeoka and get off at Taketa Station, which takes about 15 minutes. From Taketa Station, you can either take a local bus to Oka Castle Ruins or opt for a taxi, which is more direct but will incur additional costs (approximately 1,000 - 1,500 yen). If you choose the bus, check the local timetable, as services may vary.
Walking
If you are already in the Taketa area, you can walk to Oka Castle Ruins from the center of Taketa. The distance is about 3 kilometers, and it should take approximately 35-45 minutes on foot. Follow the signs leading towards the castle, enjoying the local scenery along the way. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes.
