  • Public Transport

    From JR Ogata Station, take a bus towards "Takeda bound" and disembark at "Harajiri Falls Entrance". The bus ride takes approximately 10 minutes. From the bus stop, it is a short walk to the falls. Bus fares are typically around ¥200.

  • Car

    If driving, take Route 210 until you see signs for Harajiri Falls. Parking is available near the falls at the restaurants. Parking is free. From Fukuoka-city, Kitakyushu-city, Kimamoto-city, Aso, Yufuin and Beppu it takes 2 hours and 50 minutes, 2 hours and 40 minutes, 2 hours and 10 minutes, 50 minutes, 80 minutes and 70 minutes respectively.

Harajiri Falls presents a captivating natural spectacle in the heart of Oita Prefecture. Nicknamed the "Niagara of the East" due to its impressive 120-meter width and 20-meter height, the falls are a sight to behold as they emerge from the flat Ogata Plain. The waterfall's formation dates back approximately 90,000 years to the eruption of Mount Aso, where pyroclastic flows cooled and solidified, creating the unique rock formations and cliffs over which the water now flows. Visitors can experience the falls from various vantage points. A wooden suspension bridge, called Takimi Bridge, downstream offers a panoramic view. A circular path leads to the top of the falls, providing closer perspectives. For an immersive experience, descend to the basin where the sound of the cascading water and the surrounding mist create a mesmerizing atmosphere.The area surrounding Harajiri Falls is also rich in attractions. A roadside station near the entrance offers local specialties and regional dishes. The Harajiri Bridge, a five-arched stone bridge built in 1923, is located approximately 500 meters upstream. Depending on the season, vibrant tulip fields bloom near the falls, and various festivals and events take place throughout the year.
