    From the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, walk east along Otemachi Street. Cross the Motoyasu Bridge and continue past the Atomic Bomb Dome. The castle grounds will be on your right, approximately a 15-minute walk. Follow the signs to the back gate ruins.

    From Hiroshima Station, take the Hiroshima Electric Railway (tram) lines 1, 2, or 6 to Kamiyacho-nishi or Kamiyacho-higashi tram stop. The fare is 240 yen. From either stop, it is a 10-minute walk to Hiroshima Castle. Follow the signs to the back gate ruins. Alternatively, take the Hiroshima Sightseeing Loop Bus (Meipuru-pu) orange or lemon route from Hiroshima Station. The ride takes about 6 minutes. Get off at the Hiroshima Castle stop and follow the signs to the back gate ruins. The fare is 240 yen per ride, or 600 yen for a 1-day pass.

    From Hiroshima Station, take a taxi to Hiroshima Castle. The ride takes approximately 5 minutes, depending on traffic. The estimated fare is between 1,000 and 1,300 yen. Ask the driver to drop you off near the back gate entrance.

The castle played a crucial role as the political and economic center of the region.However, on August 6, 1945, the atomic bombing of Hiroshima resulted in the near-total destruction of the castle. While the main keep was rebuilt in 1958, the ruins of the back gate and other structures serve as a reminder of the devastation. These ruins offer visitors a chance to connect with the history of the castle and the events that shaped modern Hiroshima.Today, visitors can explore the castle grounds, including the reconstructed main keep, which houses a museum showcasing Hiroshima's history before World War II. The Ninomaru (second circle of defense) has also been reconstructed, offering a glimpse into the castle's original design. The Back Gate Ruins, along with other ruins scattered throughout the grounds, provide a sobering reminder of the past and the city's remarkable recovery.
