    Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, or Heiwa Kinen Kōen, is a place of solemn remembrance and a powerful symbol of peace. Situated in the center of Hiroshima, this over 120,000 square meter park stands where the city's bustling commercial and residential district once thrived. On August 6, 1945, the area was decimated by the atomic bomb. Four years later, it was designated as a memorial zone.Designed by Japanese architect Kenzo Tange, the park serves as a testament to the victims of the atomic bombing and a vow to protect and forge world peace. Key features include the iconic Atomic Bomb Dome (Genbaku Dome), a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the skeletal remains of the former Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall. The park also encompasses the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, which surveys the history of Hiroshima and the advent of the nuclear bomb while focusing on the events of August 6 and its aftermath.Visitors can also find the Cenotaph for the A-Bomb Victims, an arched tomb holding a register with over 220,000 names of those who died from the bomb.
