    Discover more about Fukuroda Falls

Fukuroda Falls, also known as 'Yodo-no-Taki' or 'four-times falls,' is a majestic waterfall that has captivated visitors for centuries. The name 'Yodo-no-Taki' comes from the belief that to truly appreciate the falls, one must visit during each of the four seasons. The renowned monk Saigyo Hoshi praised the falls, further popularizing this belief. The falls cascade down a cliff formed by volcanic activity 15 million years ago. Over time, rainwater collected between the mountains, creating the four-tiered slope. The varying water flow, influenced by rainfall, results in different impressions, from powerful torrents to elegant, silk-like streams.Visitors can experience Fukuroda Falls from multiple perspectives. A 276-meter-long tunnel leads to a three-story observation deck. The lower platform provides an up-close view of the cascading water, while an elevator takes visitors to the upper platform for panoramic views. A suspension bridge offers a unique side-on perspective of the waterfall near its base. For the adventurous, a hiking trail leads to the nearby Namase Waterfall, the fifth tier of the falls system.Throughout the year, Fukuroda Falls offers a unique experience. Lush greenery surrounds the falls in spring, providing a refreshing escape in summer. Autumn brings vibrant foliage, making it the most popular season to visit. In winter, the falls may freeze, creating a stunning icy spectacle. The Daigo Light event illuminates the falls from autumn to winter, offering a magical nighttime experience.
