Getting There

  • Walking

    From Ominato Station, the lighthouse is approximately a 20-minute walk. Follow the signs towards the coast and Furubochi Park. The path is straightforward and offers views of the surrounding area.

  • Public Transport

    From Hitachi Station, take the Ibaraki Kotsu bus bound for Omika. Get off at the Omika Chuo bus stop, which is a short walk to the lighthouse. Bus fare is approximately ¥250.

  • Driving

    From the Hitachi Chuo IC, follow the signs towards Hitachi Port. The lighthouse is located near Furubochi Park. Parking is available at the park, and it is free for approximately 15-20 cars.

The Hitachi Lighthouse, situated in Hitachi, Ibaraki, has been a guiding light for ships navigating the waters of the Pacific Ocean since March 1967. The lighthouse was constructed as part of the development of the Port of Hitachi. Its architecture is a modern take on traditional Japanese candle shapes, standing 42 meters above sea level.Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the ocean from the lighthouse grounds, located within a small, well-maintained park. While the lighthouse itself may not be accessible to climb to the very top, there is a section about 5 meters high that visitors can ascend. The site also features informational plaques about other lighthouses in Japan, connecting it to the broader maritime history of the country.The lighthouse emits three white flashes every 25 seconds, visible up to 12 nautical miles offshore. It is a functional lighthouse, ensuring safe passage for vessels entering and leaving Hitachi Port.
