Car
If you're driving from Tokyo, take the Tohoku Expressway (E4) towards Utsunomiya. Exit at Utsunomiya and follow Route 119 north towards Nikko. Continue on Route 119 until you reach the Nikko area. Follow signs for the Irohazaka switchbacks, which will lead you up to the Kengamine Observatory. Note that parking is available near the observatory, but there may be a small parking fee.
Train + Bus
From Tokyo, take the Tohoku Shinkansen to Utsunomiya Station (approximately 50 minutes). Transfer to the JR Nikko Line and take the train to Nikko Station. From Nikko Station, you can take a bus (Nikko City Bus) to the Irohazaka area. Get off at the Kengamine Observatory bus stop. The bus ride will take about 30-40 minutes. Be sure to check the bus schedule as it may vary, especially in off-peak seasons.
Public Transportation
Alternatively, from Asakusa in Tokyo, take the Tobu Railway's Limited Express to Tobu Nikko Station. This journey takes about 2 hours. From Tobu Nikko Station, take the local bus to the Irohazaka area, which will take approximately 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive at the Kengamine Observatory stop, you can easily walk to the observatory point.
