    From Kokura Station, take the JR Kagoshima Line to Yahata Station (approximately 15 minutes). From Yahata Station, a taxi to Kawachi Fujien costs around ¥3,500 and takes about 20 minutes. Alternatively, during peak season, a free shuttle bus may operate from Yahata Station to a location near the garden. Check the latest shuttle schedule as it may not always be available. A less convenient option involves taking the Nishitetsu bus number 56 from Space-World Station to Kamishigeta, followed by a 45-55 minute walk to the garden. The bus ride costs ¥300.

  • Taxi

    Taxis are readily available from JR Yahata Station. The ride to Kawachi Fujien takes approximately 20 minutes and costs around ¥3,000-¥3,500. Ensure the taxi driver is familiar with the location, as it is in a somewhat remote area.

  • Driving

    Kawachi Fujien is accessible by car via the Kitakyushu Urban Expressway, exiting at Otani or Yamaji IC. From either interchange, it's approximately a 20-minute drive to the garden. Free parking is available near the garden entrance, but spaces are limited, especially during peak season. Tolls on the Kitakyushu Expressway vary depending on the entry point, but expect to pay around ¥1500.

Nestled in the wooded hills south of Kitakyushu, the Kawachi Fujien Wisteria Garden is a seasonal spectacle of floral beauty. Founded by Masao Higuchi, who dreamed of leaving a lasting legacy, the garden opened in April 1977 and has since become world-renowned. The garden is only open to the public during the wisteria season (usually late April to mid-May) and the autumn foliage season (mid-November to early December).The garden's highlights are its two approximately 100-meter-long tunnels adorned with wisteria trees. These tunnels showcase a stunning array of wisteria varieties, with colors ranging from pure white to deep purple. Walking through these tunnels is like stepping into a dream, surrounded by the gentle fragrance and vibrant colors of the wisteria blossoms. In addition to the tunnels, the garden features a large dome of interconnected wisteria trees, creating a breathtaking floral canopy. A viewpoint at the top of the garden provides panoramic views of the wisteria flowers and the surrounding bamboo groves.During the wisteria season, advance reservations are required to visit the garden, especially during peak bloom and the Golden Week holiday. Tickets can be purchased online or at convenience stores in Japan. The garden has become increasingly popular, attracting visitors from around the world who come to witness the beauty of the wisteria in full bloom.
